Neo Pot Magnets

Pot magnets (also as capped or holding magnets) are assembled of a round mild steel cover, a non-ferrous insulator and a Neodymium magnet core, pressed together. There is a center hole, or a tap hole, or a tap bolt on the back of the assembly for mounting. These details are designed for affixing into a design with a screw, a bolt or other secure methods.

Applications of Neo Pot Magnets include:

  • Magnetic holding
  • Lifting
  • Antenna Mounting
  • Positioning

Besides our standard models (Stock Sizes) listed bellow, we can make assemblies to custom designs.

Our Neodymium Pot Magnet Standard Models

Essen Magnetics offers a range of standard Neodymium Pot Magnets. The dimensions in diameter and height, size of hole or feature and holding force of the magnets are listed in the tables below.

Also called countersunk pot magnets, they are assembled with a NdFeB ring magnet and soft steel cover. The Neodymium magnet can be Nickel or Zinc plated and the steel cover can be Nickel, Zinc or Chrome plated. This magnet is designed for screws to be used for permanent positioning with a flush screw head with the magnet. Our range of countersunk pot magnets can accommodate a wide range of screws depending on the size of the magnet.

Neodymium pot magnets with bore and a 90-degree counterbore are commonly used to incorporate magnetic attraction into everyday applications. This magnet helps non-magnetic materials, such as plastic, timber, glass, and ceramic, to attach to metal surfaces. Combined with a metal striker, this magnet is ideal for closure mechanisms in cupboards, window shutters or doors.

They are assembled with a NdFeB ring magnet and soft steel cover. The Neodymium magnet can be Nickel or Zinc plated and the steel cover can be Nickel, Zinc, or Chrome plated. This magnet with a non-threaded hole are commonly used with bolts to positioning the magnet.

This magnet is especially ideal to heavy-duty industrial or commercial applications in cases that the attachment needs to be stronger than screws and harder to dislodge. It can accommodate nut and bolt attachments that are unlikely to loosen under vibration, physical pressure, or other duress.

Note: Washers are recommended when bolts are used for attaching a magnet to help prevent the magnet loosening and being displaced.

Uses of Neodymium Pot Magnets

Neodymium pot magnets are ideal for closing mechanisms and concealed placements, like cabinet doors, drawers, gate latches, and door holdings. They are also great for attaching shelves, signage, lighting systems, and window displays in shop fittings. These magnets are also helpful for various activities in workshops and in industry, such as holding workpieces during welding, cutting, milling or drilling.

Pot magnets can be made with a tapped hole, a countersunk hole, a counter-bored hole, a threaded stud, a threaded collar, a hook or an eyebolt for mounting and hanging a range of ferrous items.

Neodymium magnets have a high magnetic strength to size ratio for applications in limited spaces as the casing confine the magnetism to one face only. This concentrates to give the maximum holding force possible for the size of the magnet.

As neo pot magnets lack moving parts and feature a protective casing, the life of the magnet is almost unlimited with minimal maintenance required. A clean surface for the magnet side can help to guarantee reliable operation over a long time.

Note:

The rated holding force is when contact directly against mild steel 3mm thick or greater. The listed holding force is for horizontal holding (of a 3mm thick steel surface). If the magnets are positioned vertical, it is recommended to divide the holding force by 3 to counter the change in gravity and reduced friction.

The magnetic strength will be weaker if the ferrous item to be attached is an alloy, stainless steel, colourbond steel, painted, oily, rusty, or rough. If the item is thin, such as foil and sheet metal, the holding force will be negatively impacted. If any objects are in between the magnets and the item, the magnetic force will be reduced as well.

Features of Neodymium Pot Magnets

Before choosing holding pot magnets, here are the details you should understand:

Appearance of Neodymium Pot Magnets

The magnets are encapsulated within a protective metal casing on all but one side. The protective casing helps pot magnets to withstand continual impact onto a steel surface without the risk of chipping or cracking the magnet.

Dimensions of Neodymium Pot Magnets

The dimensions for Pot Magnets are measured by diameter and height. The details of features included in our standard Pot Magnet range are also included in the tables below. Customized Pot Magnets are also available.

Magnetism of Neodymium Pot Magnets

The protective steel casing of a pot magnet will force both magnetic poles out of the exposed face. The holding force in kilograms are included in the tables below.
